Why yes, I do have a lovely shoulder, thanks for noticing

I don't redo photos... as I am sure you realize already if you have seen very many of my poses.  Sometimes I figure I will do something or I am in the midst of . . . I am not entirely sure when Chris takes the photo but I don't like to waste accusations so I move on and show you some lovely "gag reel" styled shots... of which I am quite proud: it is not often then you can look so ridiculous doing something so ordinary.

Thanks for the challenge Pleated Poppy

Stereotypes and the big bad wolf

It's that time gather round boys and girls it is time for story time with Rachel. . .

I wore this to my husband's work holiday party (which was well after the holidays but that works for me!).  I don't know if I shared this before but my husband works in the video gaming community.  So we enter a beautiful room and I am prepared for a pretty awkward evening of social awkward people.

Yes, I admit it I fully accepting of a stereotype: they are here for reasons... just saying.

But instead of find a group of quite and unsure people (as has been my experience with "gamers"... even yes, my husband to a degree), I found a group of loud, proud, happy and social group of people willing and able to get their drink on in the process of celebrating a year over and done well...

I went from unsure if I would enjoy myself to walking away having been introduced to way too many people and getting to know a bit a select few that turned out to be pretty amazing and awesome people.

Guess the saying: "don't judge a book by it's cover" is more than true. . . at least not all the time : P

On the way to the party I apparently ran into the big bad wolf earlier and he told me "what a nice chin I had" ... I got a little too proud?

Right there with you Dolly...

I made my husband laugh when I came out of my closet in this number ticking my hip and humming "Workin' 9 to 5".  When dressing I couldn't decide which 80's working woman film I was channeling "Working girl", "9 to 5" or "Toosie"...

I'll let you decide, though my heart might be broken if you don't compare me to the cross dressing Dustin Hoffman.

Side note: I'm pretty sure NC has gone crazy with it's weather... just saying.  People it is February and I am wearing this...

My dressy Adidas

Yes, I am not wearing tennis shoes... but I am still wearing Adidas.  Would you have guessed that these crops are Adidas?  I sure didn't I was completely surprised when I saw the tag.  Who knew that Adidas made at least some what dressy clothes?  It weirds me out... will Victoria Secret start making ball gowns?  Will Wonka start making wedding cake?

When will the weirdness stop?

Why yes, I would love to waltz?

Is what I must have been thinking when this shot was taken???

All the same: do you remember broom stick skirts or I am the only one?  I remember when I owned 5 of them in a range of colors and wore them with slightly baggy shirts... way bohemian but not in a good way.

Lesson learned when making this outfit: no matter what you pair it with high heels and broom stick skirts do not go...

Just saying

Hats are off... almost

Now that's a face you want to wake up next to, I can tell.

Though late in January I took down my Christmas decorations this past week.  I'm pretty sure taking down Christmas decorations is one of the saddest things in all the world.  All the Emo/cut yourself music seems to play in the back of my mind as I pull down the lights and garland.

It is not so much that I have another thing on my list of things to do.  It is not so much that there are no real holidays (yes, V-day is not a real holiday... I'm sorry to break it to you) on the horizon.  It is more the air of Christmas, the nostalgia, the fact everyone is baking, arguing and shopping.  As silly as it is I like going out on Black Friday more to people watch then anything else.  I can do this all year long but at a certain point it get's creepy.  At Christmas you can smile and add "Happy Holidays" and nothing you did seems odd anymore... well almost.

serene and happy to be here

I love winter. I'm pretty sure all my favorite clothes are in my winter wardrobe.  Layering, boots, sweaters, and LOADS of hats!  You wear a hat in the summer in NC you might melt like the Wicked Witch... just saying.  But in the winter you can don it all.  Deck your halls and all that jazz.

There are fires, roasted marshmallow, stews, hot chocolate, gloves...

Yep, pretty sure it is one great season.

I'm melting, I'm melting...

So this is what happens to me in direct sunlight, my eyes melt: literally.  Excuse the bad pictures of my face and just pay attention to the clothes underneath.

For me every outfit has an origin story. This one started with me being given this blue thing.  I'm assuming it is a top.  As you can see in the picture it doesn't really work as a top for me, not by itself anyway (I'm not a big fan of my ladies hanging out there, though they will have to say excuse me from time to time, not always spacial aware if you know what I mean.).  But anyway the top.  I looked at it and really wanted to use it in something so.... (drum roll please for the very simple answer) I thought layering.

From there a few minutes later I had picked out this.  My thought process:
The blue is bold and flowy
If I wear a flowy top with a flowy bottom it will kind of be like a new styled Moo-moo
Blue is bold, if I go to mate (like black) it will be stark.
Jewel tone?  sure, let's try it

Really intelligent right?  I thought so.

Remember the best thing about fashion: don't believe what you hear from other people.  Wear what you feel pretty in (so long as you don't lie to yourself: no one feels pretty in a moo moo), and yes this goes without almost all exceptions  (with shoulder pads just say no, they make your neck short and that's never a good thing for slimming).

Assault of the deadliest kind...

Was resently given this yellow top.  I looked it over and kind of stared at it.  "What do you do with a brilliant yellow top?"  I mean really, where do you go from there.  If this is the starting point of your outfit what do you do?  You can't add more color...

OH wait, yes you can!

Baffled and confused, yes: I'm both

Why do they make sweaters without arms that aren't vests?
I mean really who is cold enough to wear a sweater but thinks, "but man, my arms will be so hot?"
I don't know about you but my arms are generally at the same temperature as the rest of my body.  All the same the sweaters can be fun... they just really weird me out.

Beneficially they do allow for diversification.

C'ind of Couture

Sadly this was as big and teased I could get my hair right now... so foggy.

I'm a big fan of couture.  I get that when you see the fashion shows you wonder who would actually wear that out.

I have the answer.

ME!

I know it is ridiculous to actually wear a bird on your head or to have hair bigger than the rest of you. . . I don't care I think it is fabulous and I love it.

Give me a birds nest in the coiled mess that once was hair.
Give me a skirt made from legos.
Give me a dress with sleeves bigger than my head.

I will take them all (for free... because I'm poor) and I will rock them all.

Twice.

Bombs away

So you ready for something crazy silly???

I bought something!  I bought this Jacket.  I was wandering around my local Target when I came across this Jacket on the 70% off rack.  I got it for $15!  Still it is $15 but you can't quite beat that with a jacket.  So I'm not sure there is a lesson to be learned but I had to share my new lovely jacket!

"Tip me over and pour me out!"

Yes, because I am a little tea pot?

Beneficially on this train of passing along clothes I have an ever rotating closet of clothes to choose from (worked it out with some friends where we pass clothes along between us so it is like going shopping but for free and you when you want to get rid of it you just pass it along)... negative is I get behind on going through my clothes and end up with piles that I need to decide what to do with... keep, pass along, wear at least once.

The wear at least once is my favorite pile because there are so many crazy silly things that I wouldn't be able to use all the time but I love to have them pop up in my clothes everyone in a while and this way I don't have to store them for the rest of the year!
